Delilah’s First Swim

Almost before birth, I had been excited about getting Delilah into the pool.  I am not sure what the lure was, but something about playing with your child in the pool held a special place in my memories.  For this reason, I had been nagging DeeDee for weeks for the go ahead and to get Lilah into the pool.  Today, was her first swim.

We were up in Santa Barbara meeting my parents for a pre-Mother’s Day breakfast.  It just happened that it was a very nice day and their hotel not only had a pool but also would provide baby water diapers.  I was lucky in that my dad had brought a bathing suit so everything just worked out.

In terms of the actual experience, Delilah certainly had moments when she seemed to be enjoying herself.  However, there were many more moments when she was crying.  I’m not sure how many of the tears were due to the pool or instead because we/I had woken her up from a nice nab to change her, smear sunscreen, and then swim with her in the pool.  I think that probably was the greater influence than the water.

Overall, it was pretty successful - I’m already looking forward to the next round….
