The IV.

DeeDee’s biggest fear going into the labor process was not the labor itself, rather the dreaded IV.  Given her life long fear of needles the thought of not only a shot, but a needle embedded into her veins was quite scary.  Sadly, some of the worst stories I have heard from others involved the attempts and locking in an IV.

Well, of course DeeDee’s experience turned out to be the worst.  Probably going to be the low end of the process looking back  Over 20 minutes DeeDee had to endure:

Nurse #1:  1x numbing shot, 1x IV attempt.
Nurse #2:  2x numbing shot, 2x IV attempt
Anethesiologist:  2x numbing shot, 2x IV attempt

The worst part for me was that I was on the other side of DeeDee helplessly watching the entire process.  The visual of seeing DeeDee’s frightened look, followed by the nurse frustratingly shaking her head in disbelief after failing to land the IV was awful.
